Free Resume Template for Transitioning Military

Hiring managers aren’t looking for resumes with lots of colors, hard to understand graphs and a charming picture of you. They are looking for a clear document they can scan quickly to determine whether you are a qualified candidate for the job.

Fill in this easy worksheet and you are one step closer to getting that first civilian job.

Note: In the PROFESSIONAL SUMMARY SECTION: If you do not have a security clearance or speak a foreign language, replace those bullet points with other hard skills or soft skills. You can find those skills in the job listing itself.

Free Job Hunt Coaching for Transitioning Military

In this pilot program for currently transitioning military retirees, you get the kind of one-on-one coaching other retirees say they wish they had during their first military job hunt. The program rolls out over four one-hour sessions designed to cover the specific job hunt strategies unique to the transitioning military retiree. The video sessions are conducted via Zoom at a time that suits your schedule.

Session 1: The Career History Interview. In this session, I interview you with a series of scripted questions that reveal your career strengths, work themes and that special something that will make a hiring manager want to hire you now.

Session 2: The Resume Writes Itself. Using what we learned in the last session plus a new technique, I teach you how to use a a job listing in a way that you don’t have to struggle to write bullet points.

Session 3: Networking for Introverts. When it comes to seeking your first civilian job, everyone feels like an introvert. Bothering other people, asking for favors, and cashing in on friendships isn’t what we do in military life. (Relying solely on applying to jobs online is not what we do either because only 5% of military officers get a job that way.) I’ll teach you how to hear “the ask” in everyday conversation, how to find the person who can hire you, and how to conduct informational interviews with your self-respect in tact.

Session 4: Decode the Interview. As a sociologist, I can tell you that interview questions are coded. They are a secret signal between you and the interviewer that demonstrate you not only want the job, but you are ready to work. In this session, I coach you through your interview questions and your negotiation strategies so you get the job you want at a price that reflects your true market value.

Sign up now. This prototype program is free of charge for a limited number of qualified participants. After taking each sessions, you will be asked to answer three questions via email that will help me improve the program and make it even more relevant for all the military retirees to come.
